Abstract

This study compares the temperature control performance of conventional PID, Mamdani Fuzzy, and Hybrid Fuzzy-PID controllers applied to a second-order medicine cabinet thermal plant (G(s)=1/(7200s²+180s+1)) using MATLAB/Simulink simulations, with a setpoint of 25°C and a -5°C disturbance. Evaluation parameters included rise time, settling time, overshoot, disturbance deviation, recovery time, and IAE. The results showed that PID and Hybrid Fuzzy-PID performed identically (overshoot 5.31%, deviation 6.33°C, IAE 1072), whereas the standalone Mamdani Fuzzy controller performed poorly (overshoot 53.88%, deviation 50.20°C, IAE 8836). Mamdani Fuzzy control is not recommended. Hybrid Fuzzy-PID is recommended for long-term implementation due to its adaptability to changes in plant parameters over time, even though its performance is equivalent to PID under linear conditions.
